About

Historically, men have not been empowered to learn about and share their more complex emotional struggles. This can lead to repressing painful or uncomfortable feelings, which, when shared can lead to better mental health.

We want to help change this.

Manchester Men Speak Up

The aim of Manchester Men Speak Up is simple: to improve the health of men across Manchester.

Manchester Men Speak Up was set up in 2022 by Healthwatch Manchester as one of our Men’s Health and Care Forums; to create a space for men to talk about any aspect of their health and social care needs.

We know how difficult this can be to do for some people and how important it is to be able to speak with people who are going through the same experiences.

Historically, men have not been empowered to learn about and share their more complex emotional struggles. This can lead to repressing painful or uncomfortable feelings, which, when shared can lead to better mental health.

We want to help change this.

We believe that Manchester Men Speak Up will give men a spare where they will feel comfortable discussing any health concerns.

The project is facilitated by Healthwatch Manchester.

Healthwatch Manchester is the independent patient champion for health and social care services across Manchester. It is our role to understand the needs, experiences and concerns of Manchester residents about health and social care services and to speak out on their behalf.

Partners, friends and family members are a huge source of support to combat this stigma. For more information about how to help someone you care about, please get in touch, or visit NHS or Mind website.
