Warm Spaces this winter

This winter is showing signs of being one of the coldest that Manchester has recently witnessed. We have all felt the cold snap with frost on the ground and snow falling in the past few days, and can no doubt expect more of the same as December and January roll on. We believe it is essential to signpost people to ‘Warm Spaces‘ this December.

From worrying about transport to wrapping up in extra layers when going outside, now is the time to wrap up and stay safe. However, many men across Manchester will not have access to luxuries such as a roof over their heads or a warm coat this winter.

Manchester City Council has provided more insight into what a warm space is and how you can find one. See their website for more details.

They have also said that every library in Manchester is a ‘warm space’. This is a free, safe place where residents can come go and stay warm all day in a welcoming, inclusive environment. These spaces provide:

  • Free, self-service hot drinks
  • Comfortable seating and welcoming spaces
  • Free Internet
  • Free WiFi
  • Newspapers
  • Information and advice

Moreover, the Social Action group ‘ are signposting people to any warm spaces near them. Find yours today.

You can also contact them via Twitter: @warm_spaces

Warm spaces can be a great place to stay safe, have a meal and spend time with other men in your community. We all deal with winter pressures differently, but as men, now more than ever we need to communicate, open up and share our thoughts, feelings and experiences with others.
